Jonathan Frey, Director

Jonathan is an electrical & computer engineer having started his career as a scientist developing thin film photovoltaics (solar cells) and helping to achieve world record efficiency in CdTe based solar modules. Having then worked on lithium ion batteries, fuel cells, and many other semiconductor products, he moved into medical and fitness devices and then onwards into makerspaces. He holds several patents and is a licensed P.E..

Jonathan founded Build, RVA in 2016 with the goal of providing access to the means of modern production for any individual. Today Jonathan continues to serve on the board at Build while teaching engineering design at William & Mary and continuing to promote and build makerspace communities.
